Should you wish to enjoy the warm (ok stop laughing – warmer) False Bay water with a swim in the sea, Glen Cairn is the perfect beach to do it in. Usually not crowded and slightly more exposed than Fish Hoek, the waves are normally bigger and more interesting.
If you’re a nervous swimmer or the kids are too small, you should check out the Glencairn tidal pool, very close to the train station. Access is via part of the beach and therefore perfect for children and slightly less strong swimmers. It is popular with snorkelers too.
After the beach / swim, drop into one of the restaurants for a drink / meal. Dixies is a local favourite but there are a number of others.
If you feel like going on a full tidal pool exploration, check out this brilliant list for a swim with a view.
